Manioca
[Manioc]
Flour, white gold, Manioc. Thais Costa’s rough jewelry appear to be the fruit of alchemy, in a magical composition with one of the most Brazilian foods of all: cassava flour.
Rough jewelry, where the very material used is part of the meaning of the piece. Thais Costa’s work takes ownership of the outcome from a dialogue between chance, the eye that delights in natural matter transmutation processes, and the gestures that intervein in the shape. Her pieces are organic, made of different metals, including gold; silver; brass; and copper, in combinations that point luxury towards something new, in the experimentation of the draft, the raw, of freedom of expression. Thais respects the materials’ “scars”, and tells a story trough her creations.
